Alright, so this is going to be a rather simple tutorial; nothing fancy about my text or anything. Just a few screenies. I hope all of you don't mind?
Good, I'm glad we got that out of the way.
So, considering that LA is tired of TNT deleting their character pages because of something completely irrational, we've decided to host our beautifully malicious creations elsewhere. And of course that elsewhere, would be known as webs.com. Haven't you heard, children? It's only the latest thing.
Now, some of you are probably currently questioning what in the hell this so called "webs" is, and that's perfectly fine. Not too many people decide to host their character bios on the site, but believe me, it's more convenient than anyone would think it to be. The actual purpose of it all is that anyone with access to the internet has the power to create their own website absolutely free. I know, you don't see free that much anymore, do you? Anyway, let's get started with the tutorial so you can get to the really good part; writing up your character.
I want you to open another tab in whatever browser you're using and type in www.webs.com. When you reach the homepage, it should look something like THIS RIGHT HERE and the first few steps are pretty self explanatory. Pick the category of your site ( it doesn't actually matter what you pick, by the way ) and click on get started.
i. Create Your Account
Thankfully, webs isn't something that will spam your inbox all the way to Timbuktu. You can feel safe about using one of your most active emails if you don't have many. Go through and fill out all of your information, then scroll down.
ii. Set Up Your Site
The main thing you have to be sure with is the site title. Does it matter what it is? Not really, so you can get creative or keep it really freakin' simple. On this site, I host my characters on something based off of my name, but I've also made insanely poetic sounding addresses as well. It's all about opinion, I suppose. After you think of what you'd like to name your site, the rest in this part of signing up doesn't matter. Just type and click whatever and scroll down.
iii. Select A Template
Don't freak out. We're not even going to be using the ghetto templates they offer as default. Just pick one at random, make sure the "I agree" button is checked, and click the "next step" button.
You're Halfway There!
For some reason, that reminded me of the song "Livin' on a prayer" by Bonjovi...
Alright, irrelevant. I know and I'm sorry for being completely random. That's a bad habit of mine...terribly bad habit.
None of this matters either ( what box is checked underneath the recommended pages icons and stuff ) so feel free to just scroll down again and click onward on the "CREATE MY SITE" button. You're going to be redirected to an advertisement page, but up in the right hand corner, you'll see a "no thanks" option. Click that, mkay?
Now, it's time to pay close attention.
After ditching the advertisement by clicking the "no thanks" button, you should end up on a page that looks something like THIS RIGHT HERE. This is going to sound weird, but you're going to click the green "publish" button and when a pop up window comes up, just click the blue button at the bottom of the window that reads "publish all pages".
Then, you're going to end up at a page that looks like THIS RIGHT HERE. See where I highlighted the option above in yellow? I want you to click that. Just do it...do it nao. =}o
Alright. Now scroll down until you see THIS RIGHT HERE and click on what I have highlighted in red like the screenie clarifies. Another pop up window will come up and I want you to click on "downgrade account". This is going to make things so much easier for everyone in the end. The rest of this tutorial is going to be mainly done on screenies, since the complicated part is now over. xD
THIS RIGHT HERE, YO is everything you'll need to know for future managing. It's really simple, though. I swear, I swear, I swear. And as a sidenote for that specific screenie, you don't have to click on the edit icon for the INDEX page, if you already went ahead and made one for a character of yours. Just click on the edit button to that page, if you have it.
Okay, so I didn't make a page for my character. Instead, I just went with the index page, but that doesn't mean yours will be any different if you did make your character a page. THIS RIGHT HERE is basically everything you need to know inside the editing process, and once you're done seeing how everything works, you can just click that floppy disk icon to save your changes and there you go! ( Note; if you did not use the index page, save your changes and click on it when you get back to the webs homepage so you can erase all the nonsense that's sitting in the box. Otherwise, that ugly default template will show up, and we don't want that. )
Part of the reason why LA likes webs so much, is because you can take any form of css/html that you'd use on a pet page, copy and paste it, and it'll work just like it would on neopets. Not to mention, you can type however the hell you want to without the fear of getting frozen! After you clicked the save button and go back to the page that shows you ALL your pages and stuff, you can click on the name of whatever page you wanna see from a lurkers view, and a new tab will automatically spring up for your convenience.
And that my friends, is the web tutorial. Play around with your new site, work on your characters, and enjoy. (:
